This week...

This week I am focusing on the Love Dare 10. Unconditional love. Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:19, 1 Corinthians 13:7, Romans 8:38-39. The book says: love is not determined by the one being loved but rather by the one choosing to love.
Now that is something to think about.
It seems pretty cut and dry when you think of parents holding their newborn child for the first time. The infant is not doing or saying anything to sway them to love him/her. They just do, they choose to.
Sadly it seems to get fuzzy when we are ticked off at our spouse... it seems that they are behaving quite unlovable-ly (I know it's not a word :) or perhaps your children have just completed the very thing you forbid them to do just 15 minutes ago... or maybe your sister has manipulated the circumstances in her favor (or so she thinks) again... maybe the cashier just smarted off to you...
It seems to get fuzzy- love quickly becomes a challenge rather than a pleasure... what happened?
Did we love them based on what they do for us or based on our choice to love?
Of course, we can't love them unless we have first received His love. Can't give away what you don't have, right?
Anyway, I know there's no original thought here... just rolling it over & thought I'd write it down.
