Multitude Monday

He bids me, "come"
and I do, "here am i, Lord"
by His grace i have come (without great struggle this time - His grace)

He speaks. I read His Living Word
and I read what he has written, an invitation to seek Truth, to draw nigh to our God

and the wheels are turning slowly, questions are being asked. i am asking questions. i compare his words with His Word.
and now, there is a choice, i have a choice to make.

i have heard this from the pulpit more than once, from men who seek Him and long to lead our parched selves to the One alone who is Living Water... and now I read these words. again.

The rich man in Mark 10 didn't see Jesus for who he was. The rich man perceived him as a respectable religious figure, calling him "good teacher." However Jesus was not, and never is, interested in being seen as a respectable teacher. He is the sovereign Lord. He doesn't give options for people to consider; he gives commands for people to obey. (from Radical, emphasis mine)
Sovereign Lord.
                no options.
   commands.
                for me
           to obey.

obedience. disobedience. there is no other option, save these two

and then, just in case i might consider re-considering ((there is a thief who would like to steal this Truth)), a quote from Elizabeth Elliot:
Jim's aim was to know God. His course, obedience--the only course that could lead to the fulfillment of his aim.

i am forever grateful, forever counting His gifts (from my 1300's)....

warm cinnamon rolls and fresh coffee
blueberries from Florida and peaches from Oregon
scrambled eggs with lots of cheese

a weekend shared with my parents

boy love and Granddaddy playing Battleship
girl love and Grandma playing school

the feel of tree bark across my palm
big trees, with big limbs - all the better for climbing

looking up to the grey sky through green leaves

His Word whispering gentle in my mind

chrysanthemums, streaked yellow and orange

three days of cool breeze
the pitter pat of rain
the windows open

our Father, Abba
that He pursues us,
He calls to us
all too big for me to understand
yet, i know - understanding is not neccesary,
His gift of faith is

gratitude. humility. peace. longing
trust. obedience. hope. love

joyfully joining Ann and the community of thankful counters

  1. How your words speak to me this morning... and in the most unexpected way! A showing of His care for me, that He would let me see something that He is showing you, too. How tender are His ways!

I read this from you this morning:

The rich man in Mark 10 didn't see Jesus for who he was. The rich man perceived him as a respectable religious figure, calling him "good teacher." However Jesus was not, and never is, interested in being seen as a respectable teacher. He is the sovereign Lord. He doesn't give options for people to consider; he gives commands for people to obey. (from Radical, emphasis mine)
    Sovereign Lord.
    no options.
    commands.
    for me
    to obey.

and then I think, like you, it really does just come down to this:

obedience. disobedience. there is no other option, save these two

For us, it really is just that, isn't it?

As always you give me much to ponder. Please Lord, that I will 'get it'.

Did you take the picture? It's perfect.

    From your list, my favorites:

boy love and Granddaddy playing Battleship
girl love and Grandma playing school

the feel of tree bark across my palm (I can feel it, too!)

    and this, yes this.....

    He calls to us
all too big for me to understand
yet, i know - understanding is not neccesary,
    His gift of faith is

    gratitude. humility. peace. longing
    trust. obedience. hope. love

all too big yes! but no worries... He's always known.....

    Much love!

  2. Lovely thoughts. Choosing obedience in the big and small is such a challenge.....yet one I am choosing to embrace. Thanks for the words of encouragement.

  3. obedience to THE sovereign Lord – we aren't Christian unless we obey – he said we are his friends IF we follow his commandments. Jesus wasn't big on rules – but he was big on obedience. I hearted this – and I heart the spirit of obedience out of love that is evidenced in between the lines. And of your thank you list – my favorite is the last one – just a simple listing of words – all so important – all of them made me smile. Thank you for this. And God bless and keep you and each and every one of yours -t-.

PS thank you for putting your link to your blog on your last comment – now I get to read you – all smiles here – all smiles.
